​Now that a new year is upon us it’s the perfect time to improve your self-care regime. There are plenty of activities that you can use to boost your mental health and take better care of yourself


1 . Read more books

Studies have shown that reading more can help to improve your mental health. If you’re looking for a new year’s resolution, why not challenge yourself to read more books? Start off by choosing a style of book or genre, it could be magical realism or sci-fi? If you don’t know where to begin it can be useful to check out a few book reviews online. Plenty of online magazines have book review sections, Bustle Books is a great place to start.

2. Natural skincare

If you’d like to improve your skincare regime why not focus on creating a natural skincare regime. There are lots of ways that you can create a natural skin care routine including:



  • Purchase soaps and moisturizers that are made from natural ingredients.
  • Make your own DIY skin care products, you can use ingredients like coconut oil, papaya, aloe vera or avocado.
  • Look out for ethical and green brands, it’s important to do plenty of research.
  • Type in your products to the Think Dirty app (the tool offers green ratings for various products).

3. A gratitude journal

Writing a gratitude journal is a great way to practice self-care and express the things that you are grateful for. It’s a simple practice, all you need to do is to write down the things that you are thankful for each day. If you need some writing prompts, you might try the gratitude app. The app includes a gratitude journal plus many other great features, including:

  • Positive affirmations.
  • Meditations.
  • Self-care activities.

4. Grow your own foods

Growing your own foods is an amazing way to improve your self-care regime. When you grow lots of vegetables you can improve your diet, learn new skills and go greener at the same time. Getting started with growing your own foods is pretty easy, first you’ll need to make some healthy compost. You can do this by recycling your food waste. Once you’ve decided which fruits and vegetables you’d like to grow the next step is to watch a few tutorials. If you prefer, there are lots of apps which can help you to grow your own vegetables.

5.  Massages

Treating yourself to a massage is an amazing way to relax and unwind. There are so many health benefits such as:

  • Can help you to soothe tired muscles.
  • A great way to improve your sleep.
  • Studies show that regular massages can help to reduce stress.

Ideas like these can help you to improve your self-care regime in the new year. There are lots of ways that you can boost your health and well being, so get started today. Whether you start a new fitness regime or improve your diet, there are so many ways to practice self-care.
