Finding your style or a clothing type that works for you and your personality isn't always as easy as it looks. Some people are naturally effortlessly stylish, while others struggle to find what works for them and elevate their style. If this sounds like you, then these tips can help you to find what works for you so you can feel comfortable in the clothes you wear. Declutter
A good step in finding your style is to go through what you already own and get rid of anything that doesn't make you feel good, doesn't fit, or is old and worn. If you wish, you can choose to upcycle old items to make them into something new you want to wear and fit perfectly; however, you can simply donate anything that is no longer required so you have a clean slate to start from. Try, But Don't Buy Take some time to browse clothing online or in-store to help you get a feel for the different types of styles and options available to you. Head into stores and pick some items that maybe you like but wouldn't normally try on or even don't like. This will give you an idea of the style of clothing you feel more comfortable in, what does not work for you, and the colours you prefer to wear. There is a lot that can be said about simply trying different things. You shouldn’t be buying them at this point, simply getting a feel for what will and won't work for you and what makes you feel good. Style Existing Items An excellent place to start when reinventing your style is to identify those pieces that you own that you love to wear and build an outfit around them, Be it a pair of jeans, sneakers, or even a blazer. Whatever it is, look at what will work well with it and then experiment with building an outfit around it. Have a couple of choices or ways of wearing the items to see how you feel about each one and which, if any, you prefer to stick with. Start Small Don't feel you need to make a drastic overhaul all at once. What this will do is make you feel more self-conscious and potentially uncomfortable when wearing the outfit. Start by adding newer items to your current wardrobe and build it up from there. Be it wearing your trusted jeans and tee combo but adding in a different pair of boots. Or swapping your usual plain black top for a patterned one, and so on. The more subtle the changes initially, the easier it will be to adjust and find something that is comfortable to wear. Style It Up Another easy way to elevate your style and make things work for you is to accessorise. Accessories can often change the look of an entire outfit. Whether you look for bags, hats, rings for women or you add in a scarf, the choice is yours, but some well-chosen accessories can be what wets your outfit apart.
