Mumbai, or Bombay as it once was, is India’s answer to Hollywood – a city of dreams and a city of massive contrasts. A city of rich and poor, inspiration and desperation, traditional and modern, old and new. Not surprisingly for such a vibrant city there are so many things to do in Mumbai!
Head to Chowpatty Beach for sunset to people watch and take in the amazing spectrum of shades from blue to red that the sky turns before nightfall. We we lucky enough to see this from our room every night and it was nothing short of spectacular
I have too say this was one of the most incredible sights I saw in Mumbai. Here
You can see laundry done the traditional way, the scale of this set against a back drop of sky crappers is quite surreal (a good viewing point is from the bridge just outside Mahalaxmi station)
Mumbai is a shoppers paradise but shun the new modern malls to explore the markets and bazaars around historic Crawford Market.
The gatewat of India
One of the most essential things to do in Mumbai is to start your exploration of Mumbai in old, colonial Bombay, visit Colaba and know that you have truly arrived in Mumbai when you see it’s iconic Gateway of India
Taj Mahal Palace
Which brings us nicely along to the iconic Taj Mahal Palace. If you think its beautiful on the outside, it has nothing on the inside. Stop for Marsala chi tea at Sea lounge and get a table by the window.
A fabulous spot for views over Chowpatty beach. Be sure to visit the hanging gardens while you're there.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum
Another must see when visiting Mumbai is the The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai's Museum biggest and best art and history museum – located in a heritage building (formerly called the Prince of Wales Museum)
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
The most stunning example of colonial architecture has to be the majestic, UNESCO listed Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, formerly known at Victoria Terminus, one of the busiest train stations in the world – be ready to fight your way onto the trains during rush hour!
