More and more people are having staycations - holidaying at home in the UK - for obvious reasons. But if you have never done this before, or it has been a long time, or you are simply wondering what the staycation scene looks like today, then there is a lot you might want to know about. The truth is that it is pretty straightforward to have a staycation that is memorable and hugely enjoyable, but especially so if you follow a few basic rules of thumb. In this post, we’ll take you through some of the best ways to ensure you have a memorable staycation. As long as you have thought about the following, that should be a lot easier and simpler to do. Treat It Like Any Other Holiday The thing about a staycation is that, in essence, it is not really any different to a holiday abroad. You are not getting on a plane, but beyond that you are still going to be having a holiday. So a good thing to bear in mind is to try and treat your staycation just like any other holiday. That means that you are still going to allow yourself to unwind and truly relax during the holiday, and you will do all you can to throw yourself into it with everything you’ve got. If you can do that, you will find that it is a much more enjoyable experience on the whole. Splash Out On Luxury One thing about the UK is that it’s a great country to travel around if you are looking for a little luxury. If you have a bit of money saved from a pre-covid trip abroad that never happened, or you are just keen on treating yourself to something a little different this time around, then you might want to consider splashing out on some genuine luxury. There are a lot of ways to do this, from booking into extravagant holiday homes such as manor houses to eating in some of the world’s best restaurants in many of our great cities. However you do it, having a little luxury will certainly make the staycation a lot more memorable, and you will feel as though you are on any other holiday abroad. The UK has some of the world’s most beautiful and amazing countryside, and it can actually be surprisingly varied as well. From the Scottish Highlands to the Newforest and beyond, there are many places to explore out in the wilderness, and much of it will take your breath away. If you are happy to spend some time outdoors for your holiday, you could consider going camping, hiking, or a combination of the two in one of the UK’s many beautiful areas. If you are stuck for where specifically to go, consider looking at the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty for a start.
Trade Homes If you know someone who lives in a different part of the country to you, you could consider trading homes for a week as a way of having a nice holiday in a different part of the UK. Even if you are not sure whether you live in a good area to go exploring, you’ll probably find that one of your friends is keen on it. The benefits of this are obvious: not least, the fact that neither of you will have to pay for any accommodation costs in order to have a brilliant staycation. And if you do it with friends, you know that you don’t have to worry about how they will treat your home, and vice versa. There you have it - these are some of the best ways to have a truly unforgettable staycation in the UK. Consider these if you are stuck for ideas.
