Snowsports During the winter, snow sports are great to try when you're travelling. In fact, they're often the entire basis of a winter holiday. Skiing and snowboarding are just two options, with both alpine (downhill) skiing and cross-country skiing available. You can also try other sports from snowshoeing and tobogganing to ice skating and even dogs sledding. There are lots of destinations for winter sports, and you don't need to be up a mountain to try them out. You will often need some special equipment, but you can easily hire what you need, or it may be included in any tours or activities that you book. Watersports For warmer climates, or sometimes when it's not even that warm, water-based sports can be a good idea too. They're not only fun but can also be a good way to travel around. Sailing can be a good way to explore a coastal area or a group of islands. A kayak or canoe can help you access places that you wouldn't be able to reach in a bigger boat. Surfing is something you can do all over the world too. If you look at Flyer Diaries, you can find some examples of ideal beginner surfboards. You can also hire any equipment you need, especially if it's too large to fly with. Hiking and Biking
Anyone who loves the outdoors has likely spent some time walking or cycling on their travels. It's an excellent way to explore new places, especially for people who are enthusiastic about slow travel. If you want to take either activity seriously, you can buy all sorts of fancy gear. However, it's also just as easy to hire a bike or make sure you have a pair of comfortable walking shoes, and you can take on plenty of walking and cycling routes. Local Sports If you like to get a taste of the local culture when you're travelling, you should try out a local sport. Whether you have a good game of petanque when you're in France or try to toss the caber (or more likely watch someone else doing it) while you visit Scotland, there are lots of local sports that are unique to different locations. Not only is it a fun way to learn something new, but it can also be a great method for getting to know the locals. Getting involved with sports while you travel helps you stay active, and makes your trip more fun in several ways too.
