Got an invite to a wedding and panicking about what to wear? Maybe you’re the bride or groom and you don’t know what you should do style-wise for your wedding. Don’t worry! It’s 2024, and the rulebook on wedding guest attire has been well and truly tossed. Here are some fabulous fashion faux pas that are no longer faux pas at all. 1. Wearing Black is Back Long gone are the days when wearing black to a wedding was a big no-no that signified a guest was unhappy with the union and wishes to show their disdain by wearing funeral colours! These days, a sleek black outfit is not only acceptable but can also look ultra-chic and elegant, and even bridal party black is a big thing. Just make sure you think classy and elegant, not funereal sober! 2. Mix and Match Bridesmaids Who says bridesmaids have to look like clones? It’s totally fine to let each one of those ladies you loved enough to give a big role in your wedding the choice of their own dress colours and styles Let them show off their individuality and your wedding will become much more interesting and eclectic as a result. Plus, they’ll all be comfortable which is so important. 3. Ditch the High Heels Stilettos at an outdoor wedding are a recipe for aerating the lawn rather than dancing the night away. Be kind to your feet! Stylish flats, embellished sandals, or even designer sneakers can make as much of a statement as heels. 4. Skip the Suit For those who detest stuffy formal wear, there are alternatives! A smart blazer with tailored trousers or a chic cocktail dress can be just as appropriate and a lot more comfortable. 5. Throw Out the Tie If ties feel like a noose around your neck, feel free to go without. A crisp shirt with the top button undone can look smart and feel more relaxed. 6. Say Goodbye to the Gown Not every bride dreams of a big white dress. If traditional gowns aren’t your style, consider a tailored jumpsuit, a chic cocktail dress, or even a bespoke suit. It's your day; wear what makes you feel fabulous! 7. Rethink the Veil If the idea of a veil doesn’t appeal to you, there are plenty of other options to adorn your hair. Think floral crowns, vintage hairpins, or a glamorous fascinator for a touch of drama without the traditional veil. 8. Unconventional Accessories Forget pearls and diamonds; your wedding accessories don’t have to be traditional. Bold statement pieces, colourful gems, or even heirloom pieces that mean something personal can add a unique twist to your wedding attire. 9. Casual Groomsmen Let’s hear it for the boys – and let's let them breathe! If a full suit isn't their thing, why not opt for smart-casual? A good pair of chinos and a blazer might just outshine any tux, and it might make your wedding stand out even more. Just make sure they are coming in something smart, not their usual joggers, obvs! The key takeaway? When it comes to wedding style these days, almost anything goes, and you really can wear whatever you want, but if you’re a guest, it’s always a good idea to check with the happy couple before rocking up in anything too outrageous - the spotlight should always be firmly on them.
