We have been to Barcelona a couple of times previously, but despite being desperate to have never quite found the time to visit Montserrat! Well, this time we did!
A Lovely but steep and windy train drive away from Barcelona, Its set way up in the mountains giving it a real fairytale vibe (I think you know by now how I love a fairytale vibe)
The beautiful architecture built in and around the mountain are incredibly intricate and beautifully constructed and in vast contract to the rugged edges for the mountain.
Despite getting there early, it was still super busy with tourists, however Its really quite something to see. And you should see it, because pictures don't do the scale justice. It seems like a place that fairy's and giants should live.
The history of Montserrat is fascinating and I was told started in 880 when a small group of shepherd children saw a bright light descending from the sky in the Montserrat mountains! translated, it means saw mountain after its jagged edges.
The views alone are epic. And than there is the monastery- Santa Maria de Montserrat. It is still home to around 70 monks today!
Have you ever been to Montserrat?
Belle Xx
