Is there anything better than waking up to this view from your own villa pool? As it happens, there is... Spending the day visiting giant Turtles kind of beats it We were off to visit Curieuse Islandd You take a 10 minute boat ride from Praslin to get there, which is a little adventure on its own. And you arrive to the home of almost 500 Aldabra giant tortoises, 300 of which live at the Ranger's Station and approximately 200 in the wild. I'm told they are Amongst the largest in the world. To give you an idea of size, their shell (carapace) averages 105 cm (41 in) in length with an average weight of 120 kg (260 lb). The island is now a Marine National Park to protect the native wildlife And also home to Coco de Mer palms (one of only two islands these grow on) We took a hike around the island, through the mangrove forests to see if we could make some wild giant tortoise friends There is a real errie beauty to Curieuse island. The trail leads to some breathtaking spots around the the island And at the very end of the trail, you come out unexpectedly onto the most beautiful beach. And to more James bond esq granite rocks punctuating the pristine beach They are so big they feel other worldly. When your ready to go back your boat comes along and sweeps you back to Praslin (in our case Raffles) And you can see home right in front of you. What a view
