Everybody wants to be confident, but not a lot of people really know where confidence comes from. True confidence is what you want to go for, and that is a much rarer breed to find than its common twin - bravado. The thing about bravado is that it very often comes hand in hand with low self-esteem but high self-regard, and that is a recipe for failure. What you want to develop is a genuine inner confidence which you can feel within you as a store of energy, and from which you can act with assurance and directness. There are a few certain things you can do to improve that internal store of confident energy.
Learn New Skills
If you allow yourself to become stuck in one way of being, or one phase of life without learning anything new, then you are going to find that this affects your confidence. However, if you make a point of learning new skills all the time, you are going to have a much higher sense of your own ability to achieve things, and that is going to really add to your internal store of confidence. It doesn’t matter what the skill is, in fact having as many different types as possible is a good way to go. You might decide to attend cocktail making classes, Russian language classes, or a woodworking class. Whatever it is, learning something new is always good.
Allow Room For Errors
All of us make mistakes, and you need to find a healthy way to accept that within yourself if you are to have a genuine store of confidence within you. One of the quickest ways to deplete your own self-worth is to be hard on yourself for failing to achieve something, or to not allow yourself to make any significant errors or mistakes. This is ridiculous, as we all make mistakes all the time, and the only thing to do is to learn from them. That is how you learn, after all. Allow room for errors within your own life, and you will be opening yourself up to greater and greater possibilities indeed.
Hold True To Your Own Value System
What matters above all is that you are clear on your own value system, and that you are living in accordance with that value system as fully as you can. As long as you do that, it doesn’t really matter what happens around you: you are still going to find that you feel confident, and that you are happy with being you and acting as you. Hold yourself up to your own standards, and you will find that you are living in a much more naturally confident, engaged way. This might take practice, but it is something that we are all perfectly capable of, and something that we should all be aiming for in some way or another too.
With all of that, you should find that you are much more confident in no time.
