We couldn't go all the way to Sintra, not to explore some of the fairy tale wonders that make it such a unique and enchanting place. First on my list was The Quinta da Regaleira.
Quinta da Regaleira is a beautiful 20th century residence, situated in the town of Sintra. The grand house is split over five floors and has an amazing ornate gothic façade, but the real attraction is to the rear with the enchanting gardens.
Like something out of a fairy tale, with moss covered stone tunnels you could easily get lost for hours and hours discovering all of its magical nooks. The gardens were styled to represent ancient secret orders, with hidden tunnels and concealed symbolism.
It manages to be incredibly intricate and detailed but expansive at the same time. You can actually visit the house, but we choose to make the most of the stunning gardens and save the inside for a re visit.
Everywhere you turn, there is some super cute little turret hidden in the woodland. All that's missing is the fairy's. I mean obviously they are there, but they only come out at night
